Today, July 16 1969, marks the 50th anniversary of the iconic saying “That’s one small step for man. One giant leap for mankind.”

That’s right, 50 years ago today at 8:18PST to be specific, the  Apollo 11 landed and Neil Armstrong became the first person to step foot on the moon.

More than half a billion people watched the iconic moment on TV, with Armstrong even getting an out-of-this-world from Richard Nixon!

Take a listen to Midday Host Vanessa’s segment where she played the exciting phone call heard around the world.

The Appollo 11 crew spent close to a day on the moon collecting more than 50 pounds of lunar material to bring back to earth. Neil Armstrong along with Michael Collins and Buzz Aldrin were all awarded the US Presidential Medal of Honour upon their safe return to Earth eleven days later – and human beings capabilities and potential on this earth and beyond – has never been the same.
