Who would’ve thought a young girl from Huntington, New York would have five number one hits in a row on Billboard Hot 100.

Mariah Carey, that’s who!

Today’s Flashback song ‘Emotions’ from  Mariah Carey’s debut album came out in 1991 and was the diva’s fifth single in a row off the CD to reach number one on the charts, bumping out Jackson’s Five…and boy did she earn it!

No one can compete with Mariah’s range, even when you step on your kids’ lego screaming, it’s impossible to reach that pitch!

In fact, when she sang the song at the MTV Video Music Awards in 1991, just for fun (because who wouldn’t?!), turns out she sang the song an even higher octave than the original, singing it above middle C.

If you’re not musically educated, that’s one of the highest notes ever produced by a human being! At least in the history of recorded music.

There has been a lot of speculations on how Ariana Grande is a new Mariah Carey, so naturally, Ariana had to attempt the song herself, releasing her own cover of the ‘Emotions’ in 2012.

Who do YOU think sang it better? Mariah Carey  or Ariana Grande
