Full disclosure, I love Mexican food, it is one of my most favourite types of food to eat, I could almost eat it everyday. So when the opportunity came for me to try Zapoteca Grill for Taste White Rock of course I had to go. That, and it wasn’t very difficult to bring a partner in salsa along.

Our Operations Manager, Jas Gill and I  headed down to the White Rock strip, to east beach. We walked in and met Jesse Spencer the General Manager and one of the owners of Zapoteca. Jesse was super friendly as he told us about the restaurant and the type of food they offer and just how much they love being in White Rock.

My mouth was watering as I was interviewing Jesse because the amazing aromas kept wafting out of the kitchen. We checked out the menu and for $30 you get three delicious courses, there were even vegetarian options which made this vegetarian happy.

I started with the Taquitos Dorados, the crunch and the delicate flavours had me grinning from ear to ear. It was filled with mashed potato which to me is a brilliant idea. It was laying on a base of salsa and topped with lettuce, pickled onion, feta cheese and sour cream. The other option you can have and looked just a delicious is the Tostadites de Ceviche, a fried corn tortilla served with shrimp seasoned in lime, mixed with pico de gallo and cucumber, topped with avocado and spicy salsa.

Then out came this piece of art, this mouthwatering Tamalli. It was served on a big corn husk and tasted every bit as good as it looked. It is a traditional Oaxacan made of masa and steamed in corn husk filled with vegetarian rajas con quest, and topped with pickled onions, roasted pumpkin seeds and your choice of salsa mole, verde, or roja. It was so tasty that I had to eat every last piece and I really wanted to lick the corn husks but I opted not to because there were people in the restaurant. The other choice was the Chile n Nogada, a traditional Poblano pepper stuffed with beef and mixed fruits, topped with walnut sauce and pomegranate seeds.

Then to top it all off out came desert, I had no room for it but I had to try it because it looked so decadent. I had the Carlota de Limon, a layered treat of cookies and lime cream, topped with cinnamon. It was so scrumptious even though I am not a big desert person I devoured it. The other choice was the Chocolate Flan, a classical sweetened custard over a base of chocolate jalapeño cake, with a caramel topping. It looked just as delicious. This Jas devoured in seconds, she also thought about licking the plate clean. However, opted not to as she didn’t have her kids around to have a good alibi.

I can’t forget the margarita! It was the best one I have ever had, seriously! They use real limes to make them, freshly squeezed daily. They go through three boxes of limes a week and have sold over 11,000 margaritas since Valentines Day this year (2018). Now I know why they are so good and why they are so popular!

Oh my lady friends, there is a special treat for you too, every Thursday….Ladies Night with Margarita specials!

And for all of my friends that have gluten…well they offer gluten free tortilla options.

Taste White Rock is on till November 17th, and Jas and I definitely recommend going to Zaptoteca, Asap!
