A Delta man has been charged in Wednesdays stabbing at a school in North Delta.

49-year-old Manoj George has been charged with two charges of aggravated assauult and two counts of assault of a weapon.

Off-duty Delta Police Acting Sergeant John Jasmin was waiting to pick up his kids at the Immaculate Conception private school when he saw the man and a woman get into a physical altercation at the front.

It’s then he jumped in to help,  the man then pulling out a knife and stabbing Jasmin and the woman repeatedly.

“The ladies injuries were serious enough she had to go for emergency surgery. John as well was into surgery last night and we’re happy to be able to say that he’s going to have a full recovery and no significant damage so that was very good news for us last night,” said Delta Police Chief Neil Dubord speaking at a news conference Thursday.

Dubord called Jasmin a hero for stepping in.

“Sgt. Jasmine had a choice of whether just to call 911 and have someone come down or to be able to jump in and break up this fight and really our investigators believe he may have saved a life last night by jumping in and stopping the assault. He’s truly sort of a hero here today.”

Immaculate Conception was closed Thursday.
