One thing that really bothers me about other parents…

Parents who are jay walking when we insist to our kids that they have to cross at a cross walk…

Parents who go on bike rides or ice skating with their kids and don’t wear helmets…

Parents who run  yellows or cross on the hand.

I’m not perfect (shocking, I know), but I kind of see why kids sometimes only do these kinds of things when they know we’re watching. Because so do we!  So if we want them to do the safe thing every time, we really have to make sure we are doing it ourselves!  Yes it can be annoying to wear a helmet, wait for a light cycle or take 10 seconds to cross at a crosswalk but these are the habits that we set up for life.

Given the increase in pedestrian accidents lately and as we head into reduced visibility season, I’m putting on my nerd safety hat to remind parents and caregivers to make sure you’re walking the walk – and only when the walk sign is lit!
