The 100th anniversary of the end of World War I brings with it the opportunity for a Surrey-based theatre company to reimagine one of its most loved shows. Four years ago, Peninsula Productions did a full-scale version of the tender and poignant drama Mary’s Wedding to commemorate the start of the war. The staged reading version—again starring Harrison MacDonald and Julia Siedlanowska—is simpler because there are no sets or costumes but the actors will perform their characters just as they did in the original.

Mary’s Wedding follows the meeting, courtship, and separation of two young lovers in rural Canada before and during World War I. While separated, Charlie sends letters from the front, and a story of love, loss, and healing emerges.

Running time is approximately 1 hour 30 minutes, no intermission

“A love story that avoids mushiness, a war story that doesn’t assault us with earnest speeches.” —Ottawa Citizen
