October 16th is Feral Cat Day, which is dear to my heart. Anyone who knows me knows that I adore animals and I love cats. The sad thing is that Surrey has a very big feral cat overpopulation. It may not seem like it is a big problem but it truly is, cats are just very good at hiding and not being seen. There are many reasons why the population is out of control, not spaying or neutering is one of them. We must spay and neuter our cats especially if you allow them outside, that is a MUST.

A few other reasons are because of renovictions and the lack of pet friendly rentals that cause owners to leave their cats behind to defend for themselves. This is truly heartbreaking, I could never do that myself, ever. I really wish landlords would wake up and see this problem and just charge a little pet insurance in the event some damage is caused. That would help stop the poor animals being left to fend for themselves and the ones that get dropped off at shelters as well.

The Surrey Cat Coalition knows this all to well, and they are asking for your help. Until October 16th please donate dry and wet food at Pet Solutions in Surrey at 10602 King George Blvd at the Dell Shopping Centre.

The food donated will be distributed to feral cat colonies and people with pets who cannot afford to feed their cats. Whatever you can donate is much appreciated! On Friday October 12th I will be chatting with Lubna Ekramoddoullah from the Surrey Cat Coalition on my show at 11:15am on pulsefm.ca. We will be chatting about this need and how else you can help out, I hope you tune in!
