Some of my favourite memories are of New Year’s Eve.  Well, that’s a lie.  Ridiculous over the top expectations, costly tickets to mediocre events, wearing tiny dresses in the rainy cold and waiting until the wee hours for a cab… I’m happy to leave it all behind for the excuse of “we have kids now”.

Every few years we do have an adult get together at someone’s house where everyone (except our reluctant designated drivers) drinks and eats too much, including the kids.  Unlimited juiceboxes if we don’t see your faces while we are playing Cards Against Humanity!

But for the most part, our New Year’s Eve evenings are fairly low-key.  We learned the trick early on of involving our little kids by letting them stay up  for the 9AM countdown – wheeeeee!  Well modern technology has caught up and you can now just tune in any time you want for your countdown on Netflix!  (I kind of think that stinks.  Let us have one spontaneous thing!  Even if it’s in another time zone).

As our kids are older we are now trying to have a few more annual traditions.  Snacks, games and watching New Year’s Rockin’ Eve and wondering “How old is Mariah Carey now anyway?”.

Either way we always make sure our family comes first as we ring in the new year.

Enjoy it all you South of Fraser families!
