Sunday we celebrate the 151st birthday of this country. Canada Day was known as Dominion day until 1982 –  when – according to Readers Digest, 13 sleepy members of Parliament voted in the name change at 4pm on a Friday. They were the only people left in Parliament that day. You have to go way back to 1879 to remember a time when it wasn’t a national holiday. On a side note, It’s a very bizarre day in the Province of Quebec. That province only allows people to move on July 1st. Can you imagine trying to find movers? I know that’s a bizarre concept but what is also bizarre in this province is that undercover police cars have tags on the license plate that always have the same date on them…February 28th. Or, at least that’s what I’ve been told. Anyway, I digress. Canada Day is a great day to celebrate this country. It’s people, it’s diversity, and the fact that we aren’t American – no matter how many Europeans ask us if we are when we visit, eh.
