My Flashback 90’s song today was co-written by Janet Jackson for her fifth album. “If” has various styles of music like rock, trip hop and industrial music, there are elements of new jack swing and hip hop music as well.
The song received a BMI Pop Award for Most Played Song and peaked at #4 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and #3 on the Canadian Top Singles. The music video of “If” won Best Female Video and Best Dance Video at the MTV Video Music Awards, and a Billboard Award for Dance Clip of the Year. It was also voted the second best female video of the decade by Idolator.
