Anna Remenik has lived and worked in Langley Township for 15 years. Her background includes business administration, accounting, and IT. For many years she was a successful business owner in the graphic design field. Currently, she works in special education for the Langley District.
As an active community-builder in the Township, Remenik is committed to public service. She regularly attends council meetings and public hearings and is very familiar with the process and challenges. She has participated in various delegations to mayor and council as a primary speaker and advocate on important issues.
It was Remenik’s research, advocacy, petitions, and persistence that led in 2014 to a much-needed interim tree-protection bylaw for the Brookswood/Fernridge area in Langley.
Her message has remained clear and consistent over the years:
- We need to address unsustainable development and poor infrastructure that so far hasn’t kept up with the rampant growth in the township.
- We need to plan and create communities and neighbourhoods through a much more thoughtful approach.
- The science is clear: we need mature tree retention and a tree-protection bylaw in the township.
- We need science-backed research on what our system of environmentally sensitive aquifers can support. Once we’ve lost our water supply to development, it’s too late, not only for the residents, but also for the multibillion dollar farm industry that relies on groundwater.
- We need to prioritize first and foremost the quality of life for those already living here. Doing so includes preserving and protecting our environment, farmland, and the ALR.
Remenik has a diverse and well-rounded background, one that enables her to approach collaboration and leadership with a broad, inclusive perspective and understanding. With strong interpersonal skills, attention to detail combined with analytical thinking and an abundance of common sense, Remenik is uniquely qualified to act as mayor.
