Hello?  Is it me you’re looking for?

Answer: YES.

When I was a kid, my mom listened to all the great “light pop” of the 80’s.  Air Supply, REO Speedwagon, and of course… Lionel Richie!  Lionel Richie popped back up on my TV via American Idol where he’s now a judge.  I haven’t given him a thought since Nicole Richie’s “Simple Life” reality show.  Given the demographic of most of the contestants on American Idol, it isn’t surprising that many of them don’t know who Lionel Richie is.  So I thought I’d better preserve my culture and make sure my kids know the magic of Dancin’ on the Ceiling, ALL NIGHT LONG (all night).

So I have thrown Lionel Richie on shuffle to integrate into our music library.  Of course, my kids know the version from Trolls, so they don’t like the old version.

As I used to listen to all these emotional love songs as a child, they didn’t have a ton of meaning to me, but the dramatic saxophones really spoke to me.  Not to mention the video for the song “Hello”.  Music videos had just come out and it was like having a small mini movie set to your favourite song!

“Hello” remains one of the great ballads of all time.  Haven’t we all thought about someone and thought… “Are you somewhere feelin’ lonely, or is someone lovin’ you?”
