Police in Surrey, U-K, were able to co-ordinate with their counterparts in BC  on Christmas Day to get help for B-C woman in crisis.

The intercontinental effort was put in motion when a 23-year-old Surrey woman who was having suicidal thoughts reached out to the British Surrey police, believing them to be the Canadian branch.

By chance, a Toronto police officer was in the Surrey, U-K, office and assisted dispatchers in connecting with their Canadian counterparts to identify the woman and get her help.

Call centre operator Ellie Benson says it’s not uncommon for her department to hear form Canadians.
