Heyyyy… remember when Family Day was on a whole different weekend in BC than the rest of the Canadian provinces that celebrated and it was SO confusing?!  Well no more… Family Day is now aligned with the other provinces and we’ll be celebrating on Feb. 18, meaning the Family Day weekend is coming up!  The weather forecast says it will either be sunny, raining, or snowing sooooo… here are some activities that look fun for the famjam:

Surrey:

If you love the outdoors and the weather is cooperating… check out the Surrey Nature Centre from 10am-2pm on February 18 for their FREE Family Day event. There’s a family challenge station, guided nature walks, story time in the Sky Room and more.

Skate for free in Surrey over the Family Day weekend! Admission, helmets and skate rentals will be free all weekend and the theme for the weekend is: Hawaii.  I think we can all get on board with that!

On Saturday, head out to the Newton Recreation Centre for a carnival! There will be tons of free family fun with carnival games, a bouncy castle, face painting, carnival-themed crafts and free popcorn.

Go on a treasure hunt like no other on Feb. 16! Search for hidden caches by navigating to specific GPS coordinates throughout the park.

What did families do for fun before TVs and video games? Board games! Spend quality time with your loved ones just like families would have done 100 years ago. Head to the Museum for this event on Monday from 1 to 4PM.

Head down to the farm for special activities, heritage demonstrations and sample baking from the woodstove.  Stewart Farm from 12-3 on Monday.

You can also just do a drop in at any of these recreation centres for Family Day activities on Monday! Whether you want to bring the kids for arts and crafts, or drop in for sports, there’s lots going on. Visit one of the following facilities during their drop in times!

Leaving suburbia:

If you’re up for an adventure, check out Grouse Mountain’s Family Day for some fun – There’s a Charity Pancake Breakfast (8:00am-11:30am, front of Chalet), outdoor live music, meet the barn owl, roving ice characters on the skate pond, and a complimentary showshoe tour just to name a few special activities!
