Surrey RCMP is advising the public of an incident which occurred in close proximity to a secondary school in Cloverdale earlier today.

On June 13 at approximately 12:30pm, Surrey RCMP conducted a priority response after receiving a report of a possible firearm outside of a residence in the 6100 block of 180 Street. Police received information from a member of the public who had observed an apparent firearm.

Officers located and arrested two adult males and determined that the firearm which was observed was an airsoft gun.  Charges have not been laid and the investigation is ongoing.

Due to its close proximity, a nearby secondary school was placed on a “hold and secure”. However, this incident was not associated to the school.

“Many pellet guns and airsoft pistols are meant to closely resemble actual firearms,” says Cpl. Elenore Sturko “Our officers respond to all firearms calls as if the firearm is real, and treat the potential threat as such until proven otherwise. We strongly caution members of the public against carrying or handling these types of weapons in public.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502 or if you wish to make an anonymous report please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS or www.solvecrime.ca.
