This past weekend Deryck and I did the Fort to Fort trail in…Fort Langley! (I know, shocker! ha). It’s been at least five years since I tackled the walk and I can say I truly forgot what a wonderful trail it is. I don’t know about you but there’s nothing worse than starting out on a new trail and in ten minutes flat you’re already back at your car. This trail is far from that. Technically a bike trail, the Fort to Fort trail is 12 kilometres long and guarantees a good sweat. But more than that it’s set in the beautiful green countryside complete with hills, an abundance of trees and river streams that as UK traveller Deryck can attest has an Irish feel to it. You can’t help but feel calm and one with nature in the surrounding.

Along with the beautiful scenery, walkers are treated to views of beautiful million dollar country homes, horses, dozens of apple trees (perfect for picking this time of year) and the nice swish-swish sound of the Fraser River at your back that on this Sunday had a lovely green hue to it.

What’s also cool is you can switch up the walk each time either starting at the Fort Camping site where you then walk to Fort Langley’s downtown and back or vice versa. We did the latter and let me tell you no matter which direction you take you are guaranteed to work up a sweat and lot of conversation along the way as it took us about 2.5 hours in total.

Get out and enjoy the fall colours in Langley or wherever your favourite spot is South of the Fraser while they’re here!
