Jas tells us about her first hot yoga experience!

With International Yoga Day being today, there was no better time for me to give hot yoga a try for the first time. I’ve taken regular yoga classes before, though it’s been seven years since then…plus 3 years of my work friend trying to convince me to go. Hot yoga has always been somewhat intimidating for me, though I mustered up the courage and headed over to Yoga360, just next door to the studios at 107.7 Pulse FM.

I soon realized I shouldn’t have worried or been intimidated. As soon as I entered through the door, I felt a wave of good energy, followed by friendly workers who offered a bright smile. This calmed my nerves immediately. I was calmer now, however, I still had no idea what I was getting myself into!

That being said, I know that I have the need to re-connect with myself, especially lately. I have felt over the last year that I have forgotten how to breathe, slow down, and process my emotions. Have you ever had the feeling where the light inside you seems like it is flickering? You don’t know what you really want anymore? Or you don’t really realize who you are?  That has been what has been bubbling inside me for a while now. I am a mom, juggling my two young children ages 2 and 4, while supporting my elderly parents. On top of this, I am an entrepreneur in the midst of managing a new company.  Talk about hands being full.

This juggling act has kept me from taking care of myself. I have been having trouble taking the first step to making time for myself. I feel most people feel they never have time. We all may have the intention to get fit, do yoga, or even go for a walk…but it doesn’t always work out that way. Knowing all of this about myself, I figured yoga would help give me the opportunity to ground myself and gain clarity. At the very least, I knew it would be a good workout.

Ultimately, I had an amazing experience today doing Yoga 360’s Pyro-Yoga class. The class featured a mixture of strength, core, balance, and meditation as well.

I finally feel relaxed and re-energized. Wow! I cannot explain how comfortable and happy I feel. I am so glad I took the time to go.  My lesson of today is to take the time for yourself – even just a few days a week – and just do it. You will have more energy and will be able to take the challenges that life throws at you with a new perspective. I learned I need to take care of myself in order to take care of others, plus the mountain of work I have to do.

Below is an amazing quote that Candace, the instructor at Yoga360 shared with us. I hope it gives you the inspiration to love yourself and feel good!

PS. on International Yoga day Candace gave us a great treat. This Birk Ginger Lime drink. Oh so good. I guess I would call it a healthy 7- up!
