Earlier today President Trump made a speech in New Hampshire where he outlined his plan to battle the Opioid crisis in the United States. He announced measures to tackle over-prescription and insufficient access to proper treatment. But it was his third announcement that has people really paying attention. The President also said, ‘If we don’t get tough on drug dealers we’re wasting our time…and that toughness includes the death penalty.’ He made reference to the war on drugs the leader of the Philippines has imposed, and also made reference to countries like Singapore – who have capital punishment for drug dealing and importing. Although it seems rather unlikely this bill will make it thru congress, am I the only person who actually thinks the idea is a pretty good one? Drug Dealers are parasites. They pray on the vulnerable and are – in fact – murderers. When someone sells someone a drug that kills them, how can that not be anything other than 1st degree murder? Perhaps the President has an idea that may seem a little(lot) extreme, but what else is there left?
