Fraser Highway Closure Extended Until December for Surrey-Langley SkyTrain Construction

By October 25, 2025General

A major section of Fraser Highway in Surrey will remain closed longer than originally expected as work continues on the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension.

What was first planned as a seven-month closure — set to end by Halloween — has now been extended until mid-December, according to an updated notice from the Province. The closure, which began on April 1, affects the stretch of Fraser Highway between 140th Street and 96th Avenue.

The extended closure is part of the 16-kilometre Surrey-Langley SkyTrain project, which will extend the Expo Line from King George Station in Surrey City Centre to a new terminus at Langley City Centre Station on 203rd Street.

Provincial officials say the additional time is needed “to continue to safely advance construction and reduce multiple future traffic pattern changes in this area.” Current work includes installing utilities to power the future SkyTrain line, roadwork, foundation construction, and guideway and station development. Despite the delay, the Province says the overall project timeline remains on track.

According to the City of Surrey, roughly 28,000 vehicles travel through the Green Timbers section of Fraser Highway each day. Drivers are being redirected to alternate routes during the closure.

In addition to the full closure, intermittent overnight closures will also take place between 96th Avenue and 148th Street as needed, from 8 p.m. to 5 a.m. During these times, traffic will be detoured via 96th Avenue and 148th Street.

Residents should also expect increased noise and temporary pedestrian detours while construction continues.

When complete, the Surrey-Langley SkyTrain extension will offer a one-train ride from Langley City Centre to Waterfront Station in downtown Vancouver in approximately 65 minutes, or 22 minutes from Langley to King George Station.

The Government of B.C. cautions that all construction timelines are subject to change.

Meanwhile, the Broadway SkyTrain extension to Arbutus Street is on track to open in Fall 2027, a year ahead of schedule.
