Laura Dixon (Independents Working for You)

By September 24, 2018General

Laura is seeking re-election to the Delta Board of School Trustees.  As Chairperson of the Board of Education for over five years, Laura worked to maintain Delta’s tradition of fiscal oversight, ensuring your tax dollars have been devoted to services and programs that make a difference to students.

Laura has provided leadership working with students, teachers, parents, and staff to help create and bring to life Delta’s “Bold Vision.”  She has worked to create an atmosphere in Delta schools where innovative teaching and student success are valued.

It is with pride that Laura shares the results brought about through the efforts of the hard-working professionals, volunteers and support staff in the Delta School system:

  • Graduation rates for the Delta School District are the highest in the Metro Region; and,
  • Delta is rated second overall in the Province out of 60 school districts.

Laura’s trustee colleagues across ten school Districts in the Metro area chose Laura to be Chair of their Branch of BC School Trustees Association.  In this role, Laura mentors and develops others to help with advocacy for students across the region.

Prior to her election as School Trustee, Laura was an executive board member of a number of Delta not-for-profit agencies and as a parent leader in the school district.  Combined, Laura has dedicated over 20 years of advocacy and service for children, youth and families in Delta.

Laura is completing her term as President of the Rotary Club of Tsawwassen, the largest service club in Delta.  Tsawwassen Rotary is known for hosting dynamic family community events and is highly regarded for its international humanitarian work.

Laura has a life-long connection to Delta’s public schools.  Her parents taught in Delta.  She and her husband, Brad, are Delta graduates. Their two children graduated from Delta public schools and are now enrolled at universities.

The trust placed in Laura over her 3 terms on the board, as a trustee, is one Laura has accepted proudly.  She would be honoured to serve Delta for another term, continuing to advocate for public education and to work for all the children of Delta.
