The 15th Annual New West Cultural Crawl continues the tradition of bringing the community together to celebrate the rich arts, culture, and heritage of the Royal city. Every year across the five boroughs of New West – Downtown, Historic Sapperton, the Quay, Uptown, the West-End and Queensborough – local emerging and celebrated artists are featured in galleries, studios and destinations across the city. Maps distributed at each participating location provide a user-friendly guide to planning your route and experiencing the crawl.
On August 10th, the crawl kicks off at the Anvil Centre with an opening event from 5:00 – 7:00 pm. The event coincides with the opening of the innovative “Worlds of Light & Shadow” exhibition at the Community Art Space. Featuring live entertainment, a cash bar and a preview exhibition of works by artists featured in the crawl, the opening event promises a night of entertainment and inspiration. Get a head start on planning your route with expert volunteers onsite to distribute maps, and share expert advice on how to best experience the crawl.
On August 11th and 12th, New Westminster locals and surrounding cultural enthusiasts take to the streets to experience the dynamic local art scene with open venues and events happening citywide. Plan to visit galleries, studios and other venues featuring the work of local artists and artisans, and experience live music, performances, and events in every neighbourhood. Each day begins with venues opening at 10 and events continuing on well after sunset.
The New West Cultural Crawl, co-presented by Arts Council of New Westminster and the Van Dop Gallery, is a celebrated event focused on the continued thriving of the local cultural sector. Through engaged interaction and ongoing innovation, events like the crawl help to support and cultivate a meaningful arts and cultural legacy in the city.
