On January 3, 2019 at approximately 8:00 pm, the Surrey RCMP received a report of a possible assault in progress in a vehicle. The suspect’s vehicle was reported as a white BMW sedan and further investigation indicated it may have been en route to Chilliwack.

The BMW was located by a Lower Mainland Police Dog Service (LMD PDS) officer in the Chilliwack area.  As the officer pulled his police vehicle in behind the suspect’s vehicle, the driver quickly reversed and crashed into the police vehicle and fled the area.

A police pursuit ensued along Highway 1 from Chilliwack through Abbotsford and into Langley, involving police officers from those jurisdictions.  Believing the victim of the reported assault was still in the vehicle and to ensure their safety, a spike belt was deployed out of an abundance of caution.  The BMW came to a stop on Highway 1 near 232 Street where the alleged assault suspect was arrested. A passenger was safely located in the vehicle.

The investigation continues with the suspect in-custody to appear in court today. Anyone who may have been in the area at that time or may have information is asked to contact the Surrey RCMP at 604-599-0502. If you wish to make an anonymous report please contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS orwww.solvecrime.ca.
